With the Ruckus ZoneFlex system, TATiUC has been able to achieve full coverage across a massive campus with only 50 Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi access points installed in administrative, faculty, library and hostel buildings.
“Alternative wireless designs called for twice as many and sometimes three times the number of access points to cover the same area,” said Muda.
The Ruckus ZoneFlex access points at TATiUC are managed through a centralized ZoneDirector controller. Unlike other centrally managed wireless LAN systems, the Ruckus ZoneDirector does not require all wireless traffic to flow through it thereby eliminating performance bottlenecks and single points of failure.
TATiUC IT staff configured and installed the Ruckus ZoneFlex Smart Wi-Fi system across the campus including the University’s hostel within hours, minimizing productivity loss and reducing cost during the installation and change over from the existing system.
“Deploying and managing Ruckus’ Smart Wi-Fi was easy, ‘like plug and play’,” said Muda. “In addition to easy and cost effective installation, Ruckus’ Smart Wi-Fi provides better coverage and thus reduced the number of access points (AP) needed to cover the whole campus.”
Each Zoneflex AP integrates a state-of-the-art antenna array that focuses Wi-Fi signals over the best performing paths for any given client. In the event that interference or obstacles degrade the connection performance to a user, the system automatically “steers” Wi-Fi transmissions over better performing paths thereby ensuring consistent performance at longer ranges.
After installing Ruckus’ Smart Wi-Fi system, TATiUC found that it provides better coverage, less interference, reduced maintenance costs, better management and control of the campus WLAN and increased productivity of the IT Team.
